Feeding Anemone

I have a long tentacle anemone recently purchased, I use to have a carpet until it got to big for my tank and was dangerous for my fish. I use to feed the carpet anemone silversides and he would latch right onto it and it would be gone. I try the same thing with the LTA, it sticks to the tentacles but I find that it lets it go most of the time. The silverside just floats to the top, this is very annoying.

Is there any other food I can try? something that wont float, but rather sink or stay in place where i place it on the anemone?

ANything meaty the size of his mouth or smaller. Most nems eat more small bits like mysis in the wild than large chunks but really any small seafood is fine. A raw peeled shrimp or scallop won't float.

Mine will often let go of a larger pieces of silverside, but I've found that if I break it into smaller pieces then it will wolf them down in most cases.

I dont have a anemone now, but when I did I used to feed a Krill every few days & alternate it with a silverside. They love them

try a few things. each anemone is different. some will take anything others are picky. if you put the food in the tentacles and it drops the food or the anemone takes the food all the way into its mouth and rejects it, try something else. you can always go back and try previous foods once you ge the anenome to eat.

thanks for the information everyone. the krill/scallops/shrimp i can get right at a food store? im not to sure if the lfs near me carries these because of the financial situation he has downgraded quite a bit.

I'm not sure what your LFS has for livestock, But He has to feed them. Any good LFS will have krill & silversides in stock

What color is the LTA? Is it fully settled into the sandbed?

A healthy/settled in LTA should pull in any food within seconds.

Personally I stopped feeding silversides a couple of years ago --- fed them to an anemone and the next morning it was dead --- was otherwise healthy. I now feed frozen (( thawed )) krill about every 3-4 weeks.

Mine snags about anything out of the water column at feeding time and wolfs it down. It even eats Spirulina flakes.

My female maroon clown feeds my anemone one half thawed chunk of mysis every day. It takes up three quarters of my 29g. tank.

hey guys, just giving an update. The anemone is fully settled in the sand bed and looking healthy and big. My two black clowns are hosting it, it took them a couple of days.

i tried to spot feed the anemone a piece of shrimp from my freezer (i let it thaw in the tank water in a cup) but still wouldnt grab onto it. Probably a piece the size of your thumb nail. Still nothing. Any other ideas? I havent tried anything else as of yet.

I chop my silverside heads and tails off and feed them the body. I also feed krill.

Leave the head on. Tons of nutrients there. I often take the entrails/head/guts and mash them into a pulp to target feed my goniopora, which reacts to it 100X better than any other food I give it.
