feeding anemone

so i just went to feed my anemone a little piece of shrimp for the first time and as soon as the piece of shrimp touched its tentacles it immediatelly shot back into its little spot in the rock n shrivled up, has anyone ever had this happen or know why it may have done this?

It could be that it was cold to the anemone and thats why it retreated. I usually let my nem food sit in a cup of tank water between my halides for about 5 minutes to make sure it isnt still cold in the middle.

Agreed, I leave the piece I am feeding in a shot glass and let it since out for 30-60 minutes to thaw. I've never had this problem. Their tentacles retract, but while holding the meaty goodie presented to them :)

I feed mine about 2x per week, this is how I prep him.
I use a turkey baster and gently blow off his tentacles around his perimeter, not his mouth. This lets him know he will be fed, he is smart!
