feeding anenome

i just added a purple carpet into my tank. I never have carpet anenome before. do you really have to feed them pieces of food for it to survived? I tried feeding it, but it is not eating yet. How often should they be feed? It is about 12 inches.

i would give him 3-4 days atleast to settle into the tank before feeding. he needs to get his foot dug in and attached and then adjust to the tank water.

what and how i feed my 2 carpets. i go to the grocery store and get a bag of frozen shrimp (actually i get 2-1.5 for the family dinner .5 for fish food) take a shrimp and wash it off with warm water to remove its flash frozen ice envelope, then soak in some RO water for about a half hour. rinse with RO. cut the shrimp in half (at 12" you may not have too, mine take it whole now) holding onto to the shrimp firmly at one end place it onto the carpets edge about 1/2"-1" in from edge. he will grip onto it. i will give it a wiggle as he tries to pull it in simulating live prey and make him pull harder. release it and he should wrap around it and feed.

if you have fish in the tank,,,feed them first this will keep them happy and not want to try and get some shrimp (my bluethroat trigger does get his face stung once and awhile being greedy)

i feed this way appx once a week.

thanks for the info. this is really helpful. My med. size queen angel got stung by my rose anenome once when she tried to take food from her mouth and the angel was breathing so hard and the gill was open up really wide. i was so afraid that she will die. And now she is picking at the carpet . she seems to stop after 2 days now. hope my carpet will survive and start eating soon

large angels are one of the few anemone predators.

does the carpet anenome shrink like the bubble tip anenome do sometimes? Or if they do that meaning that is not a good sign?

if its occationally, yes,,,but if its due to agressive fish,,then no.

My anenome went back to normal, and I think my queen angel really stop picking on him. She will past by the anenome and look at it a few times, then swim away. So I think it will be okay. I will try to feed it in a couple of days and see.
