I just aquired six colonies of b.wellsi/merleti and would like to know what techniques people are using to feed them. Is it necessary to feed to maintain color, or is lighting enough? What type of food and is spot feeding required?
I have learned to turn off the pumps, and hand feed with mysis shrimp, I was surprised to see how much they have grown. My husband thinks they grow every time we feed them!
when you spot feed, do you wait for the feeding polys to be expanded, or do you just place the food near by and let it do it's thing. None of the blasto's I have show any feeding polyps day or night? Could it be just the adjustment period.
i mix cyclopeze with the mysis shrimp and then I aquirt some into the tank witht powerheads on so it circulates then they will know food is coming then they will open thier mouths. If you dont do it this way and just set the food there, if you have any crabs or shrimps they will steal the food.
I feed mine P.E mysis shrimp, caught em in action thought Id share
For the longest time Ive only had the red colony in the pic to watch eat and it will latch with it's small tenticles and work the food in to it's mouth. Sometimes the mouth will "lean"for the lack of a better word towards the food until it gets it. While two other colonies I just got actually engulf like a ricordea would, pretty neat to see.
