Feeding Brittle Star?????

I just added a brittle star to my tank. It is yellow with whiteish-grey spikes on the arms and maybe 8-10 inches across. My tank is 20 gallons and about 10 months old. I'm concerned that there is not enough food in there for it.

Should I feed it? Silversides? A whole one?????

They usually can go with pieces of shrimp from your local supermarket, even pieces of fine chopped squid will do them just fine. If you know where he is in your tank. Place it near one of his arms and he will do the rest.

Just hope any fish that you have don't take it away from him :D

I cut of a piece of sardene and put it on my plastic stick and put it near my brittle star. He reaches out with an arm and takes it pretty easily.

My brittle stars will go after pellet food. They get active at feeding time and crawl out of their hiding places to find it.

Note that they are usually nocturnal also. So they may not be very active during the day. I have never fed mine it gets all the leftover food that makes it to the bottom of the tank. I have a 120 gallon that is pretty well established.

I have 5 and feed them frozen Prime Reef every other night. i wait until about 8:30 pm and them hand feed them. They crawl out and wait for the food. I let them skim the detritus on the off nights. They are all doing well.

silversides work well, and are readily available. After the lights are out, put it in make sure it makes it to the bottom,

I touch mine on a tentacle with a small piece of krill, and wait until they take it. My fish never get it away from them. A pair of long metal tongs helps reach them. I don't really make a point to feed them, so much as I like to do it when they are out and available. They seem to do just fine for days or weeks, or even more for some of them, when I don't get to them.

Mine eats whatever falls near him. But he never comes out from under his rock. Do they usually wander around? or is he ok staying in the same place?
