Feeding Bubble Tip Anemone

Hey guys,

A few quick questions. Is it fine to feed a green bubble tip anemone every other day, or is that too much? I would like it to grow pretty quickly and be healthy. Also, is it fine to feed the anemone only krill, or does its diet really have to be altered for it to be healthy? I would rather not have to buy a bunch of extra food for it if it is not truly needed.

Thanks!

You can feed it every other day, and it will grow quickly on that feeding regimen. I expect the anemone will get tired of the krill and reject it if that is the only food you give it and you feed it that every other day. I would suggest at least getting two or three other foods from your seafood dept. at the grocery store--squid, scallop, shrimp, and some silversides from your lfs.

Sure. I find that mine aren't too eager to eat the same thing time in and time out. They definitely seem to recognize variety and take the food in more eagerly when I vary things up.

dont mean to hijack your thread, but do you just feed them those frozen shrimp that you find at the grocery store?

wow...i feed both of mine now silversides.....same brand always eats it....even when it was like 15" across loves them....it got to enourmous porportions off just silversides

Yeah, I just feed fresh shrimp for human consumption from the seafood dept.

Jubjubrsx, I think perhaps Karen for Karen's Rose Anemones only feeds silversides to hers too. I know mine get tired of krill or squid if I try to feed those over and over, but I can't recall them ever rejecting silversides. So maybe that is one food that they would never tire of eating. Also, I do think individual differences exist within the same species as far as what foods are accepted. I've noticed with my H. magnificas that the purple based ones seem more eager to eat some foods and the reddish based anemones are more eager to eat other foods.

thats what i feed my carpet anemone. it loves em. It has grown a few inches in about a month

yea dude. and i know why now. my damn cleaner shrimp takes the food out. And once i fiigured that out my strawberry dottyback started taking its food away. haha. So i have to give them both a piece of krill before i feed it. haha

I think you just have to try different things. My RBTA does not like shrimp. It will eat it but spits it out pretty much whole the next day. I eat a lot of seafood so I will give him a sliver of whatever I have that night for dinner whether it's fish or clams or crab.
