feeding coral

Yes, it would help to know what you've got. But FWIW most corals of the soft and SPS variety will get their nutrients from your feeding of the tank for your fish and the fish by-products. LPS benefit from target feeding with shrimp and meaty foods in small bits to fit the mouths. Phytoplankton can benefit indirectly as it nourishes some the tiny critters and spawn that corals feed on.

Coral eat zooplankton(eg cyclopeeze)
Zooplankton eat phytoplankton
So if I were to use phyto then I would feed it to my refugium--not the display tank

what if you have pods in the display?

not necessarily - re-read the Cap'n's first post. the zooplankton are likely in your tank already. Feeding the tank live phyto will increase your zooplankton population as it feeds on the phyto. 'course, you can jump start things if you want
