I have 3 fish

longnose hawk
yellow watchman goby
pink skunk clownfish

is feeding once per day what I should be doing?

We're supposed to feed these animals?? Thats what I do Leighton. When I remember anyway. Missing a day or two certainly won't hurt though.

Agreed .. I think a varied diet is more important than a daily one. Even tho I don't follow my own recommendations as well as I should :(

longnose hawk needs attention the other two are hardy. Make sure you find something your hawk fish likes and feed every other day.

Yay for people who feed their fish!

I get scolded for feeding too often (daily) by someone who almost never feeds his fish.

IMO a healthy fish is one that gets fed a lot. Fade32's parents (Potters is his mom's screen name) feed A LOT and they've got some of the nicest looking fish I've ever seen and seem to be able to keep just about anything. They have a potters angel that is probably approaching 2" thick and a spotted mandarin that has fat rolls!

So Leighton, you're doing a great job :)

I forgot to mention that eels ARE NOT supposed to be fed daily, they actually seem to do much better when fed 2-3x a week, so my golden dwarf moray is the exception to my feeding schedule. This seems to go for all eels, not just golden dwarf morays. Just FYI ;)

I feed daily, or every other day or a couple of times a week. If I feed daily the tangs aren't as aggressively picking at the rocks which I want them to do. In the last year of this irregular schedule the tangs have completely wiped out the red turf algae I had.

the longnose hawk is dominating the frozen mysis that I feed...its actually the only food I have right now, but he loves it and consumes it heartily

I feed the tank about 1/2 cube of mysis each day...is that enough? in the water it looks like there are tiny shrimp everywhere, but if you think about the actual bulk its not that much food

I am thinking about getting some formula 2 and making some of my own food

I have some calamari and other fish

is there anything I should avoid in homemade food?

did chelsey teach you how to feed-- that would have gave me a heart attack

Ever seen Curt feed...the fish have to eat their way through the food to swim. Your system should take care of excess food if you have any.

Sometimes I feed very heavy on my home made puree' mix but flake is usually the same amount. Cyclopeaze I dose sparingly other than what is in the puree' mix.
