feeding frogspawn

Hi,

I just got my first frogspawn (first coral actually) and I have read everything I can find about its care. When it comes to feeding, how do you know if it is taking the food? Do the "tentacles" move the food to the mouth? A pretty basic question, perhaps so basic that nothing has mentioned it so far. I am assuming that it would be obvious if it did take the food, but since nothing has happened after 2 attempts, I figured ask the experts.

Thanks

It will be pretty obvious when the frogspawn is eating in my experience.

Mine will wrap it's polyps over a small chunk of food placed into it's polyps. It will usually close up around the food piece and then slowly open it's mouth and engulf the food.

Here's a pic of a piece of shrimp in my froggy's mouth:

The opaque spot on the bottom right head is the shrimp in it's mouth.

Here's a shot after target feeding cyclopeeze. You can see the strings coming from the heads covered in cyclopeeze and notice that the polyps are closed up quite a bit as it's engulfed a bunch of cyclopeeze:

My froggy is normally quite open and expanded; these pics are of it feeding; there's a definite change.

Thanks,

That was exactly what I needed to know. Last night I fed cyclopeez and there were mucous strands galore. Then it, rather slowly, began to curl in toward the mouths.

I am relieved to see it eat, although I knew to be patient since it has only been in my tank since Sunday.

Thanks again,

How vital is it to taget feed frogspawn? The LFS where I got my specimen said no special feeding was required - though through the threads here I 've read that some people target feed and some people do not. My frogspawn is still looking good.

Thanks in advance.

I have found that mine grows faster when I target feed but it's by no means necessary, just helpful.

Definitely not necessary, but I find my frogspawn is a LOT fuller, has nicer colors and is growing faster now that I target feed.

shrimp and cyclopeeze it is... i believe my frogspawn is now salivating at the dining choices. thanks for the input.

My frogspawn doesn't ever eat and has grown from 4 heads to 13 heads in about 15 months. I try to give it food but it never takes it. My torch eats like a pig and has grown from 1 head to 4 in 9 months. I think feeding always depends on the individual coral.

i have some branching frogspawn, i feed my cyclopeeze. i had it for a year before i started feeding them and am seeing them get larger and splitting more than before.

i also wouldnt say that it takes it like my sebae or anenome, bit still i spray it in its mouth.

Don't feed mine directly but they are in the path of the food, had both for a year, 3 turned into 7, 2 turned into 4, and two more have 4 little tiny pin head size ones that I'm going to see if I can transplant......

All three came from different sources.
