feeding hammer coral

I never feed my Hammer. Never have, never will. They don't need it.

That is some beautiful healthy-looking specimen right there! :eek1:

I purchased a hammer coral a few weeks ago. Can someone tell me how to feed it and how often? I've tried placing food on the polyps with the pumps off and running but it dosen't eat. The food just falls off.

Thanks

I have never fed mine anything directly. Here are some growth shots:

I thought that feeding it would make it produce heads quicker?

What does make the hammer produce heads quicker? High alk?

Ditto^ mine never seemed to take direct\target feeding like my Frogspawn, Torch or Duncans do so i stopped and it is thriving...

The funny thing is I can't get my torch to eat, but my hammer loves to. Frogspawn doesn't like it etheir. The Duncan's and hammer are pigs.

I just picked up a really nice metallic green hammer yesterday and had the same question.

I guess I wont be feeding it anything either but I am curious if there are other things I can do to help it grow. I know there's no magic formula but what have people typically had success with?

As an aside, I noticed on both sides of its base, it has a small cone shaped vent that almost breaths, is that normal? At night it even has something that looks like a fan that comes out of it and retracts with these small "breaths." It looks cool but I would love to know what it is. I'll try and put a picture of the entire piece later tonight. Thanks!

reefbank, look up feather duster. sounds like one of them. you cab try feeding after a couple weeks. my hammer will eat, my torch wont. try if it does, you can feed it if you want. i wouldnt more than once a week though.
