hello! after a month of practically eating nothing, my mandarin goby started to take pellets. he has gotten really skinny from the past month, how often should i be feeding him? i have been feeding him 6 - 8 spectrum 1mm pellets about 2 to 3 times a day. I also have a leopard wrasse taking pellets. I've read both fish have a fast metabolism and need constant feeding, is this true?

30 gallon, about 30 lb of live rock, tank is a little over 3 months old. i have 2 other clown fish in the tank and 2 green reef that i am going to try to get rid of

I won't say it is impossible to keep those fish alive in that size of a system, but not sure it is practical to do what it would take to do it.
You would need to be culturing pods and feeding often, very often.
Personally I would never try even one of those in that small of a tank.

wouldn't it be okay to keep because they are both eating pellets? sorry im not trying to argue just want to make sure!

Pellets are just a drop in the bucket compared to what they really need, so my answer to that question is definitely no, not for long term success.

What he said. The odds are greatly against you sadly for those fish.

Getting a fish to eat is great, but you need to feed to match their metabolism. Both of these fish eat constantly and require constant availability of food.

Do you have a refugium on that tank? If you are bound and determined to keep both in that size system I strongly suggest adding one. You then can periodically add bags of copods to your main tank and refugium to help maintain a good level of natural food in the system. I have a scooter dragonette in my 75 gallon with 10 gallon refugium, He eats mysis shrimp like a champ but also eats all day long from the rocks. I have and will continue to replenish the system with copods to ensure the little guy not only survives but thrives.
