I'm having troubles getting a Pearlscale Butterfly to eat and it was recomended that I try feeding it some clams. I'm unsure how to go about doing this. Do I just split it and put it in the tank? The Pearlscale is in quarantine right now. Thanks for the help
Sounds like you just got the butterfly...I wouldn't worry too much yet as I've fish that took anywhere from 4-7 weeks before eating prepared food. Put a couple of pcs of LRs and tie a pc of nori to one of them. The problem using live clam so early is that the fish will get hook on live food and will be more difficult to get them to eat prepared food.
Also, try mussles. This may steer your fish away from clams that you may have or may want to add in the future. They also like Ocean Nutrition angel formula and live blood worm.
Also, remove the clam half after about 6 hours to prevent breakdown in your system.
IME, the clam method does not make the fish more apt to go after Tridacna clams that we would desire to keep. I've seen fish feed on the live clam half that was given to them while in an aquarium with multiple very expensive maximas and croceas.

Yes, BUT its better to get them eating in general. Sometimes with the more picky fish there is more that needs to be done in order to get them on the good (healthy) foot initially.

Dont buy frozen...they aren't as tempting and as mentioned before could have funky preservativs, etc. You can get live clams of different sizes and mussels at a seafood section in grocery store (sometimes) or asian markets.
If you buy more than needed initially, I know people that have success leaving them in water in the fridge for extended period to feed at a latter time.
