Feeding SPS Corals

Anything with a mouth eats its common sense and backed by science that corals eat and eat a lot. Some corals can get the majority of the energy from photosynthesis but none can get their amino acids needed for growth without ingesting them. I don't know why this debate keeps going on, it's been proven 100 times over the corals eat, including sps corals they have developed hundreds of mouths for a reason. In saying that, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to feed them directly but it does increase growth and sometimes improves colors.

I didn't say they didn't eat. I just said it wasn't necessary to feed them;)

I use 5 drops of amino acid's and I broadcast feed reef roids once a week. I'm not saying this will work for everybody but It has brought back a dying stylo and a fading purple rim monti cap since I started doing this. Polyp extension has increased 2 fold since then as well. I do weekly water changes and drip kalk as a normal regimen.

If you have a high nutrient system the SPS will most likely eat fish poo. Running high nutrients and SPS doesnt always work though.. not if you want a clean tank. If you run a low nutrient sytem try using some Amino Acids and Rotifiers. In the wild SPS corals are considered carnivores and feed 24/7. They only get enough energy from light to survive. If you want them to go over the top you need to feed them in addition to strong lighting. SPS coral eat mostly zooplankton and bacteria. Rotifiers are a form of zooplankton. SPS do not directly eat phytoplankton. I dose AA every day along with rotifiers every other day. This will help your colors and growth.
