I'd just like to hear from those that regularly feed their SPS tanks. Like ZoPlan, DT's Oyster Eggs, Roti-Feast, etc. What's your routine? Positive/Negative effects?
I have started to feed my corals late after the lights go out. Oyster eggs, fish eggs, cyclopese, rotifers and amino acids. I have noticed better polyp extention, color and growth.
I have been feeding only oyster eggs twice a week now for a couple weeks (lights out). Though everyone has also told me fish poop is the way, no noticeable improvement yet though. Maybe it's not enough or just not doing anything altogether. Don't know yet.
If you want to feed at night blast your sand with a turkey baster just before lights out! I blast my sand once a week the day before a water change and get great(sometimes too good) PE! My Turbinaria looks better this way imo!
I feed DIY food. Some of it's likely too small for the fish, some it's small enough [oyster eggs, cyclopeeze, small blended pieces along with larger chunks] to fit most coral mouths IMO.
Figuring I can see my stony corals with larger polyps ingest some, I assume my stony corals with smaller polyps must do the same. Then again, as a friend of mine used to say ... you can take all the flesh off an Acropora and hardly fill a thimble - there's only so much it can eat. [or so my opinion is]
I feed a small amount every day, or nearly so. With my Sunburst, I try to feed smaller portions more regularly - and thus end up feeding the tank a bit. Seems like when I feed more, color is better [unless skimmer/etc isn't exporting properly/keeping up].
Provided your export can handle it ... I don't see a reason not to, and plenty of reason to. But that's just my opinion.
I'll up you that awesome Turbinaria pic with an Acropora catching cyclops-eeze
I was one that preached "FISH POO ONLY" and then one day I tested my water and realized how sterile it really was. No wonder my color looked "blah" I now feed the fish a mixture of rotifers, freshly chopped clam, shrimp, oysters, and other fresh seafood. I also add oyster eggs twice a week and my coral have never looked better. Besides who has sps that react like this after a good "poop feeding" from the fish???
