So as many people know, Chris and I have a 300 gallon DT. We have
beautiful rock work that Chris set up and we have started placing a
lot of our more showy and beautiful corals in the DT. However, there
was a distinct lack of movement in the tank, and it didn't really seem
all that alive. So we have started filling the tank with fish.
We both love Tangs, so we having been adopting them on a regular basis.
Because system water volume is a solid 500 gallons and Chris grows a massive amount of macro algaes we have been able to keep nitrates under control. However, our fish were starting to eat more cost in food per week then us. We have been going through packs of nori like crazy lately, trying to
keep them all fed. In addition to pellet, flake, mysis, macro algae, and other seaweeds. Well last night we tried an experiment. We put a
whole head of organic romaine lettuce in the tank to see what would
happen. We have fed the tangs lettuce before after talking with some
of the care-takers at the Maui Ocean Center and seeing what they fed
their aquariums. They also like to eat Kale and spinach occasionally.
We put the head in around 10:00pm on Friday, (lights turn off at 11:00pm) and it looked like this:

I checked the tank again Friday around 3:00pm and this was all that was left:

Just the base of the heart was left
A few hours later, not even that was left.
All of them getting in on it:
