Feeding Time

I have found that when I tried to feed my fish in the morning they would be too tired to eat and would just watch the food fall.

I feed in the afternoon / evening once a day. The fish do much better this way and eat healthily (maybe too much sometimes).

I feed my fish 3 times a day. First is about an hour after full lights on, then again around noon ish then again right before my lights start ramping down.

Then twice a week I broadcast feed my corals by waiting until it's blue lights only at the end of the day. I slowly ramp down my lights then after it's blues only I'll make my Coral Frenzy or Cyclops mixed with tank water I feed it to the tank after the blues have been on only for at least 30 minutes. You'll know when to feed them by watching their feeder tentacles come out.

Maybe twice a month I direct feed my corals at the same time as above but I mix Coral Frenzy, Cyclops, frozen brine, frozen mysis, some small pellet food and tank water. I then turn off all flow in my tank and use a turkey baster to spot feed each coral some of the mix. I'll leave the flow off for 10 minutes or so giving the corals time to eat the direct feeding.

This is what I do in my mixed reef, I've got fish, SPS, LPS and leathers along with two BTA's but my tank is LPS dominant

And I am about as different from Dkuhlmann as I can get. I feed once every 2 and sometimes 3 days and usually in the mid afternoon. I feed nori in a clip first and give that 30 minutes. I mix a wide variety of foods (frozen, liquid, flakes, granules, etc) in a heavy glass mug and spot feed some with a turkey baster and broadcast some as well. Fish are all fat and corals growing healthy and faster than I want!

Ron, I've been thinking of upping how often I spot feed my corals and might bump that up to 2x a week instead of how I've been doing it. But I have to say everything is healthy the way I've been feeding. I do feed heavy and have no problems with phosphates or nitrates.

It's like they say, if what you're doing is working... Don't fix it :lmao: But I honestly do think my corals especially acans and micromusa's would maybe grow and multiply faster with more direct feedings. I'll give it a try and see how it goes.

Today is WC day and I'll be changing 20%, so tonight I'll spot feed my corals and do it twice a week for a while and see how it goes.
