Feeding

I wont be at home from march 23 in the afternoon to the 31st.
My friend that usually feeds my fish will be gone also.
Is there any way that the fish will survive without food for that long or will they die?
If they will die, should I use one of those blocks of fish food to last a few days then they will be ok being without food for 5 or so days?
OR
Should I get an auto feeder? I would rather not spend 50 bucks on one.

PS- my protein skimmer (red sea prizm professional) keeps overflowing at the worst possible times.
It will work fine for a few days, not even coming close to being near the top, then all of a sudden, i get an angry call from my roomates saying the thing is spewing nasty stuff all over the carpet.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Are you keeping your water level constant in the tank? A lot of evaporation might affect the skimmer. I would think it would be a problem while you are gone too.

I would personally not go that long. Ask around. I'm sure someone here has one they can lend out. I had one but it fell in the water. Or go to wal-mart or petsmart. You should be able to find one for about $15...If you don't like it, just return it.

As far as the skimmer. Don't know if you have a collection cup hole drilled as you can run it into a 5 gal. bucket or something but I'd worry that it would start pulling TOO much water and end up burning up your pump. Turn the skimmer off. Not a big deal to leave that off but I'd go light on feeding.

Where do you live? Columbia or Ladue?

I went to petsmart and bought one and it worked out just fine. I paid like $20.00 and it feeds the fish every 12 hours. There are some more expensive ones that you can feed on a 6 hour cycle I believe. Worth the money for piece of mind that s for sure

yea, i will check them out. I can always use it for a week and see how it works. If i dont like it, return it.

I am a doctor and for $300.00 I can tell you what is wrong with you. For another $300.00 I can write you a script for some great drugs, and another $200.00 for a follow up visit just to make sure everything is ok...............OH you don't have insurance!!!!! OK that will be $49.95 and you just have to get over the stress. That is your problem.
