feeding

Reading about feeding it says to feed only what the fish will eat in X minutes (3 seems to be about average) my problem is I'll put in food and it goes everywhere the fish eat what they can get but if I kept feeding them for 3 minutes a lot of food would be in the rocks etc.

So, I feed them what I think they could eat and most of that ends up in the rocks.

What does everyone else do?

I found that once I got my Sailfin Tang and Percula clownfish to eat a pinch of flake food from my fingers I have less floating around and now I am sure they are getting nutrition and they can then pick the rest up around the tank. There's less waste that way.

try turning off your your filter or pump and just run with one power head for circulation while the fish are feeding

I just started feeding by hand, not everyone in the tank is going for that and yes my filter pump is shut off so it doesn't go into the over flow but most still sinks into the rocks. OH, and small bits at at time - I wish I had that much time...... I will try to spread it out a bit.

Thanks

how much flow do you have in your tank Brad?

and what fish?

I don't have enough flow, increasing that in the near future. But that doesn't seem to be the problem even with all the flow off there is enough rock to keep enough of the sinking food away from the fish - now I don't think I over feed and the fish don't look/act under fed but I'm a little afraid of cutting back on the food because of the loss in the rocks. Also, my testing is where it should be (i'd like my nitrates to be lower (it's not at zero) and I'm working on that)

Fish - two clown, three pajamas and a fire fish.
