ok so here's the story... I just got out of the military and moved to Covington a couple months ago. I have visited memfish and Kermit's and have been following the goings on with Kermit's. I basically want to know if there would be enough customer support from the Covington area to sustain a LFS. There doesn't seem to be many reef crazed ppl in the area. I think I was spoiled by living in California the past 12 years where there was a LFS on every block it seemed like. Also some more info on joining the club would be great, annual dues, who to contact to pay and join, frag swaps, etc. PM here is good or email to waterdawg413@yahoo.com.

Local Fish stores are like golf courses....If you want to make a little money you better start with a lot of money!!!

I live just a little south of Covington in munford.
We had a LFS at one time but it closed.
I do spend alot of money in this hobby but I don't know if one would do good in Covington.
I am a local business owner in munford. I do know we look at our profit in volume not off of every little thing we sale or do.
In small towns that works best I think dont try to get rich off everything.

Yeah most definitely not going to try to get rich. It's more of something to keep me busy and noticed that the closest LFS were in Memphis. I just don't want to lose money. I will have my disabled veteran income that pays the bills. If I could open a LFS in Covington and have it pay for itself I would be happy. Just not sure if there's enough ppl in the area interested in saltwater tanks.

There is a small fish store in Covington but not a big selection and no salt
There at least 8 salt tanks in munford I know of and maybe more.

Yeah I checked them out and was not impressed. Goldfish and koi is all I saw along with a few rodents. I been going in here about once a week or so and have never seen anyone in there buying anything. I talked to the owner who told me that there's a market for saltwater stuff but they basically didn't know anything about salt stuff. I thought this was weird because if there's a market for something related to the business you would think they would take the time to learn about it. Who knows maybe I'll just open a small shop dealing with dry goods and equipment...

I'm in Ripley and think it would be great to have a lfs with saltwater. Years ago when I lived up north our lfs decided to try saltwater and offered free classes to folks to get them interested. Dont know how it turned out since I moved away shortly after.
