Does anyone have any clear shots of a female carpenters flasher wrasse? or better info than, the same as male but without the large dorsal and anal fin. I want to make sure what im getting is actually what its supposed to be. All i can find is pics of female Filamented and mccoskers.

Rudie Kuiter's book, "Fairy and Rainbow Wrasses and their relatives," has a few pictures of P. carpenteri females if you can find a copy. The females are mostly orange with much duller striations along the body. Problem with female flashers is that many species are very similar-looking. It's very difficult to identify them unless they are IP or TP.

^Agreed, and many species overlap. If they are at a stage where a definite id can be made they are already beginning their transition into a male.

Yeah thats what im afraid of, they all look really really similar. Thanks for the heads up on the book maybe i can find one local to at least take a look at. What is IP or TP?

Wrasses go from female to: Ip = initial phase male or 1st phase (female has begun to transition), Tp = terminal phase male or 2nd phase (this is where you see the vibrant colors of the super males)
