Female Flasher Wrasse

I have recently added a male carpenter wrasse to my tank - he is settling in nicely and is a wonderful fish.

Curiously, everywhere that sells flasher wrasses states that they are best kept in groups of one male and multiple females; yet, none of these retailers actually seem to sell the females.

I would like to add a few females, anyone know of a source?

Yes, females are seldom sold at retailers, because generally speaking females are only reddish without any markings, and males are much more attractive than females; it is true of most species of Paracheilinus. Collectors hope to concentrate on catching male specimens in a harem.

No need to keep a male togther with females, and if you can get these at the same time it will be the best, but females of different species will also be OK.

Sorry for your loss. A decade is an amazing lifespan in captivity for a flasher - about double what I would expect!

Unfortunately I have had far less luck with any of the subsequent ones I have purchased; so much so that I don't even try anymore

Wow, what a loss. I just recently lost a McCosker to the hardwood floor. Was my fav fish to watch, only had him in the DT for about 2 months. I felt like screaming when my wife found him, couldn't imagine having him for almost 10 yrs
