Hey folks,
First I'll give osme quick background info:
I've had my female maroon clown for over 3 years, and she's always been the picture of health. I paired her up with a small male about a year and a half ago, and since then, they've been laying a massive batch of eggs every 2 weeks or so, and up until recently, everything was perfect.
They currently reside in a 40 breeder, and live in a large S. gigantea anemone I've had for about 2 years.
A few days ago I realazed it had been a couple weeks since they had a batch of eggs. I had recently reaquascaped and changed the flow up a bit, so I thought nothing of it, since it usually takes them a little while to get used to it and start laying again. However, it's been quite a while now and still no eggs. But that's the least of my worries.
There has been some very odd behavior coming from the clowns. The female is looking really banged up, with tons of litle bite marks on her side, and her fins are getting torn up here and there. I noticed today that she is aggressively swiming towards the front glass, and even banging up on it sometimes (her mouth is a little bruised from this) and whenever she leaves the anemone, the male actually nips and BITES her sides and fins. She doesn't retaliate in any way and this goes on and on.
Today is the first day since I've owned her that she didn't eat aggressively. After putting a fair amount of mysis in the tank, she finally ate maybe one or two, and her belly is looking the least full it's ever been. Not starved looking yet, but she usually is very plump.
Does anyone have ANY idea what is going on? Could my clown have a disease? I haven't introduced anything new in months. Could they be really upset with the reaquascaping? Could my male somehow be turning female or something? I'm worried, as I've become quite attatched to the little guys, and this is coming out of nowhere.
All levels are normal,
my nitrate is at 5 ppm but that doesn't seem worrisome, my salinity is at 1.025, temp 79. The same it's been fo years. Everything else is gorgeously healthy in the tank.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!!! I will try and snap a picture and post asap.
