Female Richmond's wrasse

I've got a relatively large male Richmond's wrasse. If I ever happen to find a female for sale in this city (unlikely, but you never know), think I'd be OK adding it, or would there be issues pairing the two now that the male has been established for months?

Tank is a 275 gallon SPS reef.

There's a fair chance it could work out, but you would certainly want to try it only using an acclimation box at first.

Halichoeres wrasses can go either way when a new halichoeres is introduced after they have been established in a tank. What i find works to cut down on aggression is adding a couple of halichoeres wrasses at the same time. This displaces aggression from the resident wrasse, prevents any one new wrasse from being overtargeted. Usually aggresion settles down after a day or two. Some use an acclimation box, but with the previous method ive never had an issue.

I have a female Richmond's and looking for a male...I use the acclimation box method for most new fish especially wrasses...works well for me.

Careful; it's much safer to add another female in this instance and let them decide who the male will be.

The trouble with adding a male alongside an established female, is that female might not be quite as "female" still as you might think.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'll keep my eye out for one. The male i have is the only one I've ever seen for sale here so I'm not holding my breath , but it's such a spectacular fish I wouldn't mind having another one!

Sure! He's notoriously difficult to photograph because
a) he's afraid of my phone. Not me, but the second I hold up an iPhone to take a picture he bolts

and b) Taking photos of anything in an LED lit tank is next to freaking impossible. Taking photos of things that are blue in an LED lit tank jut looks like total garbage. So keep in mind that in real life my tank doesn't look like a bottle of windex, and he's quite a bit more vibrant.

he's also kind of tubby these days. i'm choosing to see it as a good thing considering how emaciated he was when I got him. The store I bought him from had had him for 2 weeks and he was kept in a bare bottom tank, which I'm pretty sure prevented him from sleeping at all the whole time he was there. The only way I can describe it would be that he was slightly insane when I bought him and he wouldn't eat. In my bare bottom QT tank all he would do was swim around in circles at a 45 degree angle with his 'nose' pressed against the bottom glass. I had an extra 40 pound bag of sand left over from when I set up my tank so I put rinsed some and made a 3 inch deep bed in one corner of the QT tank and he immediately buried himself in it and stayed buried for 48 hours. I could see the sand rising and falling slightly as his gills flapped. When he woke up two days later, it was like he was a normal fish again and started eating everything. I have a video of him burying himself in the sand as well, let me see if I can upload it to photo bucket. It's freaking cool.

He looks great. I picked up one around 2 months ago that was mislabeled at my lfs. I think its a very pretty wrasse. A female/juvi was on dd a few days ago. I picked it up and it should areive today. I will try to post pics but as you said they are hard to photograph under leds. Hopefully, the male because a super male.
