Ferric oxide hydroxide+Phosban Reactors+MJ400s

crapola, only read to page #9, didn't realize you guys already ordered :(

On a side note, what is the benefit to these reactors and the media you ordered?

<if there is any extra that aren't claimed, i'll take it :)>

It's all about Phosphate Control. Phosphates can do everything from cause tons of hair algae in an extreme situation, to causing corals to "brown out", and even low levels of Phosphate, can cause corals to stop growing becuase it can restrict calcificaton.

Hope that helps. Keep an eye out, we may order some more of it in the near future.

So how was Breakfast/Lunch, or as some more respectable than us might say....Brunch?

Anything good at Trop I need to go look at tomorrow?

Glenn, this is from page 9 of the thread.

I'm running 1/2 Cup of Media, or .196 lbs. Only about 1-1/4" high in the Reactor. They should make a style of Reactors 1/2 Height.
I'm running it with a MJ1200 with a valve almost fully closed.

The media has a lot more "fines" in it than Phosban. I never used Rowaphos before. I ran it in the sink for a good 10 minutes, a very fine reddish brown rust could be seen on my sink bottom. A very small amount of material but you dont want it in your tank. I say it's reddish brown, but the actual media is jet black.

In the reactor the media looks just like phosban, I've got it floating up just enough to see it move. I plan to run it only for a couple hours tonight, then start it back up tomorrow.

Some people run 5 times the amount I am running or anywhere in between. I'm in no hurry to let it work, and would rather go slow.

Dont forget to keep an eye on your Alkalinity, it will drop.

Sparg, .03ppm or less is recommended. Although most test kits will not measure that low.

Hey Hef, if it turns out i needed one, would you recommend i get one of these reactors for such a small tank?

Also, how much media would i use and what type do u recommend?

Hef,

Thanks so much for hosting the pickup party. It was great to see so many of us. I got to meet GrossR & Disney whom I hadn't yet had the pleasure. At the Hef "mini meeting" we talked about all kinds of ways to reduce the cost of running a system by using every day v. aquarium specific additives. We ended up at Hef's for about 2 hours!

After the meeting we went down to Ruby Tuesdays and had Lunch. We couldn't even call it brunch by that point as we didn't finish there until around 2:00!

Then off to Trop where we got to chat with Austin (Harlequin Reef who owes us some pictures) and Keith (Bluestraveler who should have pics of that new anthias by now).

We stayed there until we were late for our evening dinner plans and then rushed out to head home.

Good to see you all and thanks again Hef for all of your help and involvement in the buy. This one turned out to be yet another 1500$ buy for NJ.

Thanks!

Hef
Thanks for receiving the products and distributing .
The purple Rim Efflo was nice at the trop

I had to get out of that place before I bought something

I just set mine up temporally
Rinsed the media with 15 gal RODI water through the reactor
I vacuum packed the extra media in individual bags for each use
Do not run the pump full bore it is to much flow and will send media into your tank it goes right through the upper filter. Like Hef said gate it down to just move the media in the reactor.
