or in the industry Bayoxide 33p. Does anyone have any connections? If ever there was a group buy needed, it's on this stuff!! Like it's weight in gold if you know what Im talking about, and that's not even mentioning some of the name brands!

Bottom line, I want some. Very hard to get connections for it Im finding out. I have the number for the west coast regional sales manager, but havent had the chance to talk to him in person yet.

Anyone got any good ideas? Let me know!

I have been striking out with chemical suppliers and eBay sellers who sell the powder version of it. twopartsolution.com is the only place I have seen outside a name brand... I figure it would be much cheaper finding it from a supplier given the markup I have seen on their other additives.

Stop feeding your fish crap and you won't have to worry about phosphates LOL :) J/K Seriously though in the 7+ years I have kept reef tanks the only time I have had Phosphate issues was with Oceanic salt and when I would just drop thoze frozen Phosphate........errr I mean frozen brine shrimp cubes in the tank every day.

Justin - I have also done some research into Bayoxide, but haven't found a vendor that sells it. :(

Matt - I think the problem is that Aldrich makes reagent quality Fe2O3 - which comes in a powder. We are looking for pelletize or granular version.

So, do you rinse the brine? W/O my phosban reactor, my phosphates do continue to climb. I just figured it was due to the byprodcts of feeding the fish.

It is Mike :) Everything you feed is gonna have some levels of phosphates.

Oh and madness: You know what they say, dont blame the arrow, blame the injun! ;)

HAHAHA Justin ;)

Since I have started using PE Mysis and avoid the products with 90%+ moisture my phosphate levels are near undetected. This includes the 600g fish system at my store. I feed 3-5 times per day!!

If you use the others just rinse them really well. Also read the ingredients. IMO 5% protien and 92% moisture is not a good mix.

Damn I sound like a PE salesman or something

Btw, always rinse frozen foods, more often than not, twice!

Some have stated that they dont, knowingly. Dunno why, but it's pretty established knowledge that those frozen juices are high octane fuel for nuisant algaes.

Thats weird your post took longer to register, then mine and mine was 2 minutes behind yours. Wasnt trying to repeat what you just said. Gotta love RC ;)

I guess the trick is to find out who's twopartsolution's contact, but good luck there:(

Already did, but thanks! ;)

It's distributed through a company called Severn Trent.

Early this morning, I email Severn Trent to see if they sell smaller quantities. Hopefully I will hear from them soon.

I found another company that sells them in 1000Kg unit (roughly 2000lbs). I don't think I want 2000lbs of the stuff.

There's another place out of Canada that supposedly sell them, but I haven't tried contacting them. Shipping for these things are going to be expensive!

UMMM, how do you rinse your food.

A strainer with Tap water???

I dont and I am having more hair algea problems then Id like in my tank.

I'll chip off a chunk of PE mysis in a cup. Pour a 1/3 cup of RO/DI or RO, let thaw lightly swirl around, strain with my finger. Repeat till strained water appears clear.

Major difference. Especially if you need to feed the tank mysis alot, like I do. My copperband butterfly wont eat anything but aiptasia and mysis, and now that there's no aiptasia.... ;)

FWIW, I looked up that ferric oxide hydroxide on Sigma-Aldrich's website. It runs about $190 for 250g.

They also have another one listed as Goethite, same molecular formula, which runs $150 for 500g.

Not to digress, and I don't have any firsthand experience, but isn't there some speculation about the use of iron-based phosphate removers and pinched mantle disease in clams?

I believe that is for lab testing Dr., and likely is in the powder form, not granular. Also that's the form when doing tests on reagants and also for coloring metals and other media.

I can't attest for that, and havent witnessed it on my clam. But if anything, I would assume it would be regarding the aluminum based phosphate remover, but again havent heard personally and just speculating. I know I didnt like the over all health of my tank while using the aluminum based media myself.

Justin-

Yes, I think you're right, the one I looked up was probably the dye. It wasn't pelletized like you are looking for.

I also use the PE Mysis and my fish love it.

John was the one that told me a while back to rinse first also, which i never did before!

Frozen mysis routine:

Pop 1/3-1/2 cube in cup. Add RO or tank water. Slosh or stir to melt. Pour through fine mesh (blue) fish net. Add RO rinsewater to cup. Pour rinsewater over mysis through net. Dangle net in tank.

Added bonus: Fish dash to net, every time.
