Few Prazipro Questions

Hey guys,

Just a few questions about using Prazipro.

1. How soon after I add fish into the QT should I start Prazipro?
2. The QT is a 40 gallon breeder, so I add 2 teaspoons on day 1.
3. How long do you wait until you do a water change and start the second dose of Prazi?
4. Would this be a good plan to just do for all fish, even without signs of parasites?

- Do dose 1, wait suggested time interval, do a 25% water change, do dose 2, wait suggest time interval, do a 25% water change, do dose 3, wait suggest interval and then do another 25% water change.

So if I understand correctly, if I do 3 stages of treatment on a 40 gallon breeder, I'd end up using 6 teaspoons of Prazipro over those 3 weeks?

Looking at doing 4 week QT, would it be good to spend the first 3 weeks treating with Prazipro?

Thanks :love1:

1. always good to let the fish sit w/out meds for at least a few days until confirmed eating etc, IMO. maybe wait 1 week? I have started Day 1 and been fine, but YMMV.
2. correct, 2 tsp, assuming you don't have significant displacement from rocks, etc. you can overdose a little on Prazi and are still fine. I have done 2x strength and was fine, byt YMMV.
3. Prazi's effect only lasts 3 days, so you could do a 25-50% WC then and start your 2nd dose immediately, as long as the fish is acting normal
4. Yes, good idea to always treat all fish

Just 2 doses is all that is needed though, where are you seeing/hearing to do 3 doses?

Good advice. Only caveats I would add are:

1. Be careful with dosage when treating wrasses. I have seen wrasses go south when overdosed (accidentally, in my case)
2. While true that prazi only stays in solution for 72 hrs and can be dosed immediately after that period, it's better to wait 5-7 days between treatments to make sure you kill any offspring from eggs that may have hatched.

Thanks guys :)

I jumped the gun and started Prazipro yesterday, 1 day after the fish were added to QT. They were eating before I added it though.

I will start the HOB skimmer up again (running in filter mode now) after 72 hours. Then start the second treatment on the 6 or 7th day.

3rd dose will just be for precautions. Maybe a little lower of a dose.

I believe running a skimmer is contraindicated with Prazi. As long as your fish are tolerating the Prazi well I would run a full dose on the third one. Also be sure the water is well aerated. Prazi can deplete some of the oxygen.

I agree. The QT and your fish can survive without skimming for a couple weeks. I don't even run a skimmer on my QTs, I just manage water quality with WCs.
