are there any tangs you can fit in a 55 gal tank?

can you successfully keep a goby and mandarin?

are coral beautys or flame angels hard to keep or aggressive?

I dont know how you feel about this but coral beauty's loose their color as they age. As far as tangs i would start small if you were cause you can keep them til they outgrow your tank... small yellow tangs are a always available at most fish stores.

I know there are alot of people who say no tangs in a 55...I myself have had a hippo and a scopas tang in my 75 for almost a year with no signs of stress and both are VERY healthy...I suppose there are many different opinions out there..but I would think if you bought a small tang ...and be prepared if it does outgrow your tank or show signs of stress you would have to find a larger home for it...there are so many different kinds of marine fish tho'.....look into all your options before deciding....they are all such delicate and beautiful creatures.

I have a Kole Yellow Eye Tang in a 55. He has been in there for about 6mo. and doing very well. His home is going to be upgraded to a 180 soon, though

I do research dont worry = ] I just had some basic questions and I know mandarins need pods I wasn't sure if gobies ate those as well and made it harder for mandarins to find food

I think a yellow tang in a 55 if small would be fine. If you dont have a well established fuge with pod population then stay away from the dragons. And a 55 maybe to small for both. Manderians are a expert fish and like longer running tanks.
With so many fish to chose from take your time adding them and add least aggressive to most. But if its going to be a reef tank then kepp stock low for easier water quality control. Look here for unique fish GL.

I would not reccomend a tang for a 55g. A bristletooth(Ctenochaetus) such as a Kole or Tomini might work or even a Yellow (Zebrasoma) but it will be tight. Zebrasoma can be very territorial toward various fish particularly in smaller tanks. The Madarin is difficult without a good pod population from a separate refugium. This fish will also have a hard time if it is in a tank with other fish that can easily outcomepete it for food.

I would not get a flame angel again, as mine started pestering my corals after 5-6 months.

Pick your goby carefully. A diamond goby will sift your sand like a blizzard, and you will actually have one (blizzard) for a while after getting it (until the fine silt filters out).

Yes the gobie will likely outcompete the mandarin for food at least in the sand bed. Between the two your pod population will soon be decimated without a separate attached substantial fishless refugium.
