Few shots of my fishes

I actually have 2 blonde Nasos. I wanted to get a male and a female. Now, it seems to me that many Nasos, especially blonde Nasos, must be caught with cyanide. I would get a couple and they would be fine for a while, then stop eating then die. This happened several times to me, and I am sad to say I went through 5-6 Nasos before I found two that would live. So there for a while I had a female black Naso. As I said, I wanted a pair, male and female. Didn't really want to put out the money for a male, but I did. Then it went missing, so I went and got another male. Meanwhile, the female black Naso died, so all I had was the blonde male Naso. Then I found the first male living in the overflow after being missing for 6 months. So back in the tank he went, and now I have 2 males. They are growing and doing nicely, and I have not added a new fish in the tank for about a year now. Oh, except for a Harlequin Tusk that I had for just a few days before he jumped out of the tank. :(


The idol is still my all time favorite, and he is over 7 years old now.

Not sure. I don't have any inverts, so no worries for me. In reading the description at LA, it might be possible that it will eat inverts.

Nice pictures I have tried to get an emperor to change over and haven't had that great of success lost one near the end of transformation. Beautiful fish
 
Thanks. They have been transformed for about 3-ish years now. I guess I have had them maybe 4 years.

Notice that one has a streamer on its dorsal fin while the other does not. I believe that means they originated from different parts of the world.

Actually, the emps' dorsal fins are not quite right. Almost like some of the rays are too short in some cases. You can see the second ray on the larger emp is almost not there, and on the smaller emp many are different lengths. Also, the nose holes look weird as well. Not sure it this is from hole in head disease, or a reaction to copper, vitamin deficiency or what causes it. None of my other fish have this problem, but both emps do. It seems to get worse with time.
 
So after reading more about HLLE, it fits what the emps have. Of course, the cause is apparently debatable, everything from copper, poor water quality, carbon, high nitrates, poor diet, lack of vitamins, stray current. So I guess I need to get them some vitamins, and improve my water quality.

Yeah, saw that, don't like to be critical of other's fish...you using activated carbon?
 
Sometimes, but not religiously.

I could chalk it up to any of the above causes. I do use carbon from time to time, my water quality is not great, I feed mostly pellets, I use copper from time to time. So, I guess I will do some water changes, get some fresh carbon in there to get the copper out, and see if I can add some vitamins to their diet and more frozen food.

Do you use miracle mud? I've read that it reverses HLLE. I know my fish looked great for years when I had my old aquarium.

I have not used miracle mud.

My fish look great except for the Emps. They must be more susceptible to HLLE.

I am now soaking their food in Selcon to see if that helps.
