Fighting conch sleeps tooo much

So I bought a fighting conch to help keep the sand clean. For the first couple weeks he was awesome, worked as advertised (aside from rearranging my corals for me) then he just vanished. I finally found him after a week buried in the sand. I dig him out, he roams for a bout a day and does the same thing again, He just goes under the sand and just stays there, I think the record was 2 weeks, before I had to check to make sure he wasn't dead. Any idea whats going on with this guy?

He may be coming out at night. I had an olive snail that only came out when I put food in the tank lol.

He's probably just lazy like most sandsifters have a habit of being.

That or he is running out of food and having trouble finding some.. how often do you feed the tank?

Mine are out and about (2 in each tank) all the time time. Large tanks, however.

Sounds fairly normal. I have 2 in my 75g and they will sometimes disappear for a bit and then come out a lot. They do tend to be out at night more than the daytime though.
