File Size Issue

New to salt and even newer to photog. I just shot a pic at the highest res my new camera can take. 3264 X 2448. By time I get it reduced to 50K, it’s about the size of a postage stamp. Any advice on how to better go about taking some macro shots of my tank?

Here is a sample. Had to reduce to 250 X 188.

Thanks.

There are two parts to shrinking a file-- the first one is what you did- shrinking the dimensions. The second part is compression and I'm guessing you didn't apply any compressioin. It's possible to get nice big jpegs and still have them be a reasonable file size. But there's another issue too and that is the file size limitations in the RC gallery. You can get around that by using an image hosting site (or your own website if you have one).
This article has step by step instructions for all of the above :)

Any suggestions on an image posting site? No idea on how to get my own website.

So starting out with pics at the highest res is not an issue? I assume beneficial?

Thanks.

Yep- start out with the best quality and work down from there.
Regarding hosting sites- there's a couple recommendations in the article. Photobucket, Imageshack and Pbase are three popular ones off the top of my head. It's very possible your own internet service provider allots you space on their server for a website- often it's no extra charge.
