fill tube

Ok... I have a question.
I was given a 90g established reef tank. It has a 3155 Osmolator. We're total newbies to SW tanking. The previous owner had the fill line going directly into the aquarium. My sons say it should go into the sump. Does it matter where we dump the new water into? It is RO/DI water. We run a refugium, with Euro protein skimmer, and mag drive return.

Any help "soon" would be greatly appreciated!

It technically can go anywhere but the issue being if into the sump depending on how you have the fill line situated and how high the water container sits you could end up with a siphon once the pump shuts off water will still run. The manual will tell you to have it fill the tank and not the sump for this reason. There are ways around the siphon sunch as mounting the output of the line high, higher than the top of the water container and letting it drip in to the sump of give it a tube to openly flow down to the sump etc...

So then in "layman" terms, it should go into the fish tank. I'm a newbie at this... remember:rollface:

I read that statement in the manual (which I had to read online cause box didn't come with directions) that it goes into the tank. Boys felt tank meant in the sump, I felt it meant with the fishy, eventhough it wasn't saltwater and just pure RO/DI water. They say that'll mess with the SG of the water and screw things up.

I like this thing, and just need to learn.

Correct, put the sensors in the sump but the water line to the tank.

Also do not submerge the water line in the tank which could cause a reverse siphon

Meaning don't allow the water in the fish tank to be higher than the top of the overflow box... correct?

I was more meaning don't put the end of the black hose from the osmolator under the water line of the aquarium to where it would be submerged at any point, have it drip openly into the aquarium even if just a half inch.

Yippie!
I'm a happy camper now! got my tank all taken care of... better fill into the return area of the sump ANNNNNNND got my ATO hooked up!

I feel so much better now that I can rest easy and not worry about burning up my pump cause I wasn't able to catch it in time. I'm filling it straight into sump with the hose hanging overhead of it. No chance of it falling either. I've watched it cycle once and it's right on the money!
