what filter would you recommend for a 10 gallon tank. I am a poor college student so I dont have a lot of money to spend.

Aquaclear and Aqueon both make very good hang on back filters. Go for the largest one you can afford.

Aquaclear worked great for me for a little over a year until I added a sump. If you can swing it I recommend the 110 (no, it it not too big) if not go with the 70. These can be modded into a HOB refugium down the road if you want and pretty much all you need is some superglue and possibly some silicone.
