I used my filter sock past my refugium. Put a T on the end of the bulkhead draining out of the refugium and into the protein skimmer section. I made a ring out of 8" zip-tied pretty tight around the rim of the filter sock, then looped 2 more zip-ties over the T. Works great, and I can remove the zip-tie holder to rotate the socks out. I have one in the tank and one being cleaned, and just switch them. I think in total it cost me about $0.10 for the zip-ties and 10 minutes to make.
A buddy of mine uses a 4x4x4 pvc tee. He cut a slit in the top tee piece so it hangs off the side of the sump, then just slide your filter sock inside the through section. It works like a charm. Sorry i dont have a pic, but hopefully you get the idea.

I put an eye screw on the inside of the stand and use a long zip tie to suspend the sock below the top of the sump. This is just in case the sock overflows.
Take a 12" length of 4" PVC pipe + reducer + diy socks out of 100 micron felt. For $3 in pvc and $15 in felt material, I have a sock holder that is really easy to remove/replace socks, and 12 filter socks.
4" diameter PVC:
Cut out for the sock and the reducer:
All together:
The filter socks easily fold over the pipe, and the reducer slides over it to hold the sock in place.
Similar to bored4long, I use 7" diameter socks so I used pieces of 6" diameter PVC and just drilled a bunch of holes in it. Socks fit right inside with no need for a reducer or anything else to hold the socks in place.
Mines real simple. A piece of 1/2" pvc(width of my sump) with tee's on each end. Put pvc through the handle(loop) and the sides of the sump support it...
I don't have a picture but I took a piece of acrylic and cut a whole in the one end to fit the sock then used a small torch to bend the acrylic to wrap around the lip of the sump etc.. It took around 15 minutes to finish it not counting the cooling time.
Here is a sump that i just finished for my 33l long. I did the same thing stiffljp did, just cut a hole about a 1/8 in bigger the the rim on the filter sock so you can remove it easily.
