Does anybody here build a filtersock holder cheap? I don't have access to any tools here in Tampa to try and build one myself and I don't want to pay retail prices for one.

PVC works wonders :) really depends on how your set up is... My wetdry was easily modified to hold filter socks instead of bio balls.

how many do u need? I have one i bought about a year ago i dont use anymore...I think i got it from MDepot.

i used a pvc pipe. that rest on top of the sump.
i think its like 18 inches long. i just slip the pvc pipe through the handle of the sock .....
picked up the grey kind its stronger from home depot or lowes. it was like 75 cents.....
then i just let the pipe rest on top of the sump.

OK I'm new at this. The sock...filled with what? Carbon? Why? I'm having some issues with my school filters I'm trying to tweak...I think someone donated filter socks to me and I didn't know what the heck they were!!

I've heard you can put carbon in panty hose and tie it off. True?

May I please have the shortened version of "Filter Socks for Dummies" summary.

ok now I'm reading up on it after I posted.

yes, I definately have filter socks sitting in the closet here. Do people even put activated carbon in them?

Ladyfsu, i believe you are thinking of media bags/socks? Most filter socks are ~100micron material catching the stuff going down your overflows/drains.

My question is simular to this. How do you attach them to the PVC? Do you need to make some type holder or just tie them off?

the sock should be a white felt material kinda thick in a way.
theirs usually a handle onthem thats what the pole goes through.
kinda like how your shower curtain does.
pretend the handle is one of the plastic rings of your shower curtain
