Filter sock instead of bubble diffuser

Would it be better to put a filter sock on the return of my skimmer instead of the bubble diffuser that comes with it? I am having small out breaks of diatoms and cyno and wondering if that could help.

I don't think bubbles coming out of your skimmer are having any causative relationship with the diatoms or cyano. Diatoms are a regular feature and often do a 4 to 8 week 'bloom' in new tanks. Cyano is a bacteria outbreak and there are a variety of causes, bubble from the skimmer isn't one of them.

On the other hand, if the bubbles are collecting somewhere that is an issue (like making it into the DT) then a filter sock is a perfectly acceptable solution for the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not saying the bubbles are the problem but the sponge in the bottom of the bubble diffuser is always super dirty when I clean it once a week. I removed my canister filter specifically for that reason so my question is would a filter sock work better than the bubble diffuser at catching stuff that makes it thru the skimmer and back into the tank
