Filter sock overflow?

I'm 14 and new to the hobby and this might be a dumb question but my filter sock has lately been filling up too much with water and it's making the overflow stop somehow... It's an HOB overflow... I recently cleaned it... Is that normal? Do I need to get a new filter sock or is there something else you can use as a filter sock?

You will find that no one gives a hard time about most questions on here so don't be afraid to ask.

I don't have a HOB set up on my tank but I assume them to work in the same way as going into a sump (which is how mine is). The sock that came with the sock brace was a synthetic mesh material and clogged really quickly when I first set my tank up (within an hour sometimes) and as soon as I switched material and micron rating the overflow quickly changed. Do you know what material your sock is made of as well as what micron rating it is? Even if I can't help specifically I am sure others will find that information helpful.

Does your HOB have a tube that goes directly into the sock that is possibly pushed to far against the sock so when it gets full of the garbage it has no where for the water to go? Just thoughts because I know my tubing down from my overflow is a good distance above the bottom of the sock which provides a much larger surface area for the water to interact with. Again, I am sorry I am not much help with specifically your HOB setup but answering what sock you are using I am sure will help others direct you.

On a side note the filter socks should be cleaned once every three days or they will start to produce unwanted nitrates.
