Filter Sock - Replace or No? What Micron?

OK, So some friends say I should only take my filter sock out and just rinse it off. I see other guys on here put it in the wash and bleach it. They say it has some special bacteria that should not be cleaned out...

I ordered a 100 Micron sock, to replace the 300 micron I currently have. I bought two, so that I can just put a clean one in and then clean the dirty one later... How do you guys do it? What size would you buy and does it even matter? Thanks!

i recently switched from the 'fabric'? socks.i tried the socks from aquaticeco.com i forget the name but part# N2100.

they are made out of nylon mesh.when i first saw them brought to the counter i had my doubts.ive been using them for over 2mos and love'em.sooo easy to clean and cheap under $5.

"special bacteria" - lol

Anyways, make sure you change about every 3 days. Bleach works well, either soaking in a bucket or in the washing machine. Air dry well before use. Do not use any type of detergent.

Your trying to avoid build-up in the sock which will raise your nitrate levels in the tank.

What size are yours ?
I do not care for my nylon. But it think it is because it is 5x9 ,and the flow is a little to strong passing through it. And blowing the poop through it.
Maybe i need a bigger one.? Hmmmmm

Haha. OK, so sounds like the "special bacteria and stuff" is out the window. Do you guys all clean your filters every 3 days or so?

To clean mine i just run it through the water under the sink. Turn it inside out and try to flush as much out as i can. Some place it in the washing machine, you can do this but it isnt always necessary.

Do not use soap or bleach ever!

I just machine washed six of them, and I couldn't believe my eyes. Super clean. Thanks for the tip.

I just throw it in the washer when my wife does a load of cloth diapers, hot water and vinegar gets the babies poop and the fishes poop out.
