Filter Sock

I'm thinking I should put a filter sock in my sump, so I'm looking for the best/easiest way to do this.

I've seen some units on Ebay that hang on the top of the tank, then you put your hose into it. That looks easiest, but is it the best?

Also............what micron is best to use?

BRS also sells filter sock hanging kits. IMO the felt socks clog too quickly, I would try the mesh socks.

I went with socks for a few weeks and found them to be a real PIA. Unless you are willing to change them every other day they can be a real nitrate factory.

Only if we can assume that the material that becomes trapped in the filter sock would otherwise have been removed from the system by the skimmer. Oh, they are a pain though, especially cleaning those funky things by hand. It's nothing like Chinatown on a hot summer day, but it's still not one of the more pleasant fishy odors.

The mesh sock is 200 microns. You should be able to get a week before cleaning.

Ok, I'll probably end up ordering a unit that hangs on the side. I found one on Ebay that comes with 2 socks for like $24. I'll pick up some mesh socks also and see how they work.
