Filter socks and replumbing

OK, I am going to redo our plumbing in a couple weeks. I tried to make my own filter sock out of some poly felt at Wal-mart. It clogs up really fast (ok, maybe my water is really dirty!) But i was thinking of buying a couple with the plastic rings to see how they are made. I have no clue what micron filtration the material i got was.

So my question is, what micron filters are you using and how are you DIY mounting them?

i get my filter socks from SITC, i think they are 200 micron. I just use 2 plastic hose rings and attach it to side of sump. holds well and easy to remove. in my new sump i am going to build something out of glass to hold the ring and the sock will just slide right in

i use 100 micron felt bags from marinedepot. also george has a acrylic hangon holder for a 4" sock. let me know if you want it

Hey Dad! (not mine!)
Is it something he made? I will definitely be interested, what does he want for it?

currently, i have to close the main drain back, so water will flow into the skimmer and refug. But this is backing things up a bit, so i think allowing the to flow free through, but close off if too much.

this is my idea so far

sorry for the late reply. just got back from cape canaveral hostipal. the sock holder he has is generic and is factory made. look on marine depot and under filtration under belin it's the 4" holder. the one that george has is built 4 times as good and excepts 1" pipe. i think he wants 12.00 for it let me know

you can turkey bast the detrious out of the rocks and it will catch it, plus i have millions of tiny bubbles enjoying my tank! Most i have seen turn brown pretty quick, and need cleaned!

Ben, your sketch looks a lot like my plumbing set up. I ended up not using the extra t, thought I was getting a recirc skimmer and wanted that as the feed. Though I want to redo everything and add a refugium to the right side. The T would feed it.

The two left pipes are intakes (double HOB overflow) and the right 3/4" is return.
