filter "socks" litterally

Ive had issue's finding a filter sock small enough, to fit in my 10 g sump under my corner display, so Ive been toying with the idea of just using new foot socks? my question is has anyone every tried this?, to what effect?, i can see that one advantage would be to just toss them when they get nasty instead of having to reuse/ wash your old sock; due to cost.

Have you checked out the BRS filter socks? They make a 4x8" sock that should fit in a 10g tank. Sorry, can't help out with the normal sock idea, though I doubt it'd be very effective.

Heck just buy some material at a fabric store and take it into a sewing shop. They will whip you up some filter socks in no time to you exact specs.

Are your sox just too tall? If so you could get a 4x8 filter sock and have the dry cleaners sew it in half to a 4x4 filter sock just cut the rest off below the new seam. Good luck
