Filter Socks: Yay or Nay?

My sump inlet causes quite a mess of micro bubbles.

So I'm thinking on putting a filter sock. The advantage I see here is I'm going to be mechanically filtering the water. And two, eliminating some of the MB that make it to the tank.

I know there's many that will oppose this method and suggest a bubble tower with live rock rubble.

So I was thinking that I could buy a PVC pipe and at the bottom cut some teeth, But I don't think this will eliminate MB like a sock since the flow will still push some MB through the teeth.

Whats your take?

I have always used filter socks. I personally like them, many will disagree, but for me I think they are a benefit. I change them out every couple-few days and have about 30 that I cycle through, then just throw them in the washer with a touch of bleach, and double rinse then put them back into service.

Filter sock +1. Will solve all your micro bubble problems and snatch out some other ugly's too. Not much of a purist here, just want to make my tank look saawweeeeet!

Sweet looking tank duuuuuude

don't you mean "bro"?

I don't use a filter sock, but if you change it out enough - what could it possibly hurt? I'm sure if you leave it in there and change it every month you'll have issues, but if you cycle through some as spleify does - what could it hurt?
