Filtration or water changes for ammonia control in QT?

I use a "seasoned" sponge filter in QT, but still run into NH4/NH2 buildup without water changes...

Any recommendations for filter setups? I'd like to find a system that would be easy to maintain in between fish...

If you're testing positive for ammonia, then your sponge filter is not "seasoned" enough. Consider using more bioballs. Or drop a few sacks of bioballs into your sump and let them season in there.

If you're having trouble with nitrate/NO3 in your QT, then the best way is to water changes. I've got a sulfur denitrator for my 200g DT, but I wouldn't bother to set one up for my QT given the constant dosing of copper, praziquantel and antibiotics.

What size is the Q-tank? On my 29 galllon, I use an aquaclear 500 and have ceramic stars in it for filtration. I also have an aqua c remora skimmer, but I don't always run it.

I utilize daily 20% water changes and I run a container of the white ammonia absorbing stones in the tank, I've quarantined many fish without any ammonia buildup at all.

If you've only got one fish in a 55g QT and are having ammonia problems, you're doing something wrong. But if you've got 4 fish in a 20 gallon, then that's the problem.

So I guess I'm saying tank size and fish load are important and we need to know those to answer correctly.
