Hi I have a 14G Biocube with 14lbs of live rock, live sand, 5 snails, atleast 5 crabs and 1 black and white clowm (female), approx 2.5 years old.
Over a week ago she developed a single white dot on the edge of her right gill and I instantly panicked and thought ick. My LFS encouraged me to try Herbtana as I felt very confident I was catching it in the early stages. I completed the treatment and actually extended (directions said that's ok) treatment because I know while the spot is gone, if it really is ick, the parasite is just in a different stage of the lifecycle. There was only the single spot and to date no others have appeared.
Additiontally, and the real reason for my post is that I noticed 3 days ago that she started with a white-ish/clear discoloration on the top 2/3 of her tail fin as well as on her back dorsal fin. She has been eating very well and acting normal. I have been trying to get a picture but it's been impossible to get a picture of the fish yet alone one that shows the condition that is concerning me. I have done research about fin rot and everything I read shows very dramatic, ragged examples and RED fins. The fins on my fish are white/clear.
I am also worried because I have read that fin rot is caused by SOMETHING; poor nutrition, poor water quality, etc. I am doing a water change today - but wanted to post this first. Any input is very much appreciated. I have only had a saltwater tank for about 2.5 years and have had great luck so I am completely green to the diseases and their identifcation and treatment.
