Fin Rot

So about a week ago I noticed what looked like a bite out of my firefish's tail. I figured it had been nipped during feeding time or by a crab or something. I decided to just wait and watch him closely. Today I noticed the bite mark is still there and it appears that the his tail has been slightly split as well. I also noticed a white scab like substance on the fishes tail. In my limitted disease experience I think this to be fin rot. I'm planning on reducing the amount of food I'm feeding my fish (slightly as I am only feeding them once a day as is). If this does not correct the problem can anyone recomend a coral/reef safe medication. I have read that melafix is supposed to be reef safe. Can anyone advise?

Currently levels are fine (Amonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, Ph 8.4, Salinity is 1.024, Temp is 78)

Changing his food amounts may not do anything, so I'd just get an antibacterial/fungal that is reef safe andcure him in the main tank

if it is fin rot maracyn 2 works well, however, you'll have to use it in a qt. also if you can only find the freshwater version just double the dosage and it'll still work. double check on that though, i'm pretty sure that's what i was told to do when i used it in my qt
