Final Sump design

Binghamton plate glass carries weld on. Also size the PVC down from 1 inch to 3/4 inch on the 45 just before the bulkhead.

Thanks again Nate. I'll stop by there tomorrow and pick some up. Won't need much. I did the size down right at the 45 before the bulkhead. So that part is all done. Just have to install the baffles in the sump tomorrow. Then finally its time for a water test!

I'll post some tomorrow when I get the sump all buttoned up and finally put a done check mark next to the plumbing :D

FWIW I actually agree with Frank on the media tray. If it was me I would rather have a media tray than two more baffles. The baffles are nice but the media tray is even nicer IMO. You could do one just like he has his in the picture he posted. Here is an example of a sump I made for one of my old tanks...

You can do yours just like mine you just won't have the first two baffles and that if fine IMO or if you want to you can add them in front of the media tray if you will still have room for the skimmer...

Media tray going in today. I'll place it inbetween the current baffles that are there. There is only 3 inches there but I see that is all Frank has as well.

I should have room to also place that 3rd baffle. So hopefully I will be good too go today.

FWIW the media try on my new sump is 3 inches and it is the same sump I used on my 150. Sounds like you are going to have a really nice sump once this is all said and done. Congrats!!

Sump is all done and drying. Plumbing is all done. Going to do a water test in the am. I was able to get my baffles in and the media tray! I think it looks good for someone who has never done one... The Orange colors are what has been added. Including an Auto Top off valve in the return compartment. Thats the colored in circle. Thanks for that suggestion Cully.

There are all 45's on the bulkheads and no barbs anywere. Thank you all for the suggestions and now looking forward to my water test tomorrow.

Next up my Rock Aquascaping! That should be fun.

One question. I see you have 2 orange baffles. Does the one inbetween the first baffle and the media compartment go all the way to the top of the water level? If not, the water will just spill over it kind of making it obsolete.

Yes the baffle works as it should. Thanks for asking ;). The sump is full of water with the skimmer running. Everything looking good! Next up is a full tank water test! That won't happen till Thursday afternoon. So far all good....

how do you plan to run the ATO? Is it a float valve? Gravity fed or directly to an RO? I've had float valves stick open, flooding my basement with RO, so I'd advise against it. I'd use gravity fed with a supply of less than your sump can hold

Thanks Nate couldn't have done it without everyones help.

Adam The ATO is a float valve. It is gravity feed out of a 5 gallon bucket for just that reason. ;) I know I'll have to fill it probably every 2 days I'm guessing. But its a better peace of mind for me because I know my sump can handle the 5 gallons.

It sounds like you've really come a long way since we all first met you on here. You've really learned one of the major keys to this hobby. Patience...I'm really looking forward to seeing pics of your tank in use! Sounds like it's going to be a great one to watch:)

Thanks Reefscape15. I'm all about Patience trust me on this. I only want to do this once. And with Reef Central and the members here there isn't really a reason not too do it right. ;)
