GREAT JOB!! I used a 250 watt MH pendent and had heating problems without a canopy, and larger utility bills, but was able to keep leather and hard corals as long as nothing touched each other. I switched to power compacts and 175 MH and had difficulty keeping leather corals but anchor, grape and frogs pawn did well. I prefer an open tank because I get my hands inside to clean the glass and perform other task. And cleaning the bulbs from salt crept. Magnet cleaners work but not that good on corner tanks.

I just thought I'd update my build. I had a recent tank crash that wiped out every fish except my bulletproof clown, my corals are ok. I also did a mod in my canopy so that I have access to my entire tank, here are some pics of my tank...

Bernie your tank is looking awesome, I always wanted to mod my canopy just like you did but never got around to it. What happened to the fish?

Thanks for the compliment. The canopy like this is so much more helpful to get into the tank... As far as my fish is concerned, the tank crashed, Ich did the 1st few fish, then the nitrates did the the next couple & the last were killed by a combo of ich & nitrates. Im going to restock slowly, but Im going to get a UV sterilizer first...

Elan, thanks for the frag, its opened up wonderfully, its a nice red color, hopefully it overtakes the rock along w all my other zoas...

Marvin, thanks for the compliments and sentiments, Im ready to bounce back, I overestimated the capacity of the watervolume, I wont be making that mistake again!! Hopefully my corals stay healthy and I'll just gradually continue to add them slowly.

Sorry to hear about the crash ... I've run into the same ... all it takes is one fish to get the Ich and boom! :(

Check this thread on UV's ...

UV's, especially when using to combat parasites, need to be sized properly to work.

Thanks for the info, I will read the thread now, thanks! Im re introducing fish into my tank now, very slowly... I have my pair of clowns again and a foxface. I will prob stay this way until to march.

hey bernei, the only question i have btw tank looking great. back to my questions what materials you use to build the stand and canopy? it looks like some wood with sheetrock..
