Pending no issues, I should be getting the keys to my new place on the 19-20th and I received the go ahead from my girlfriend to use one of the extra rooms as a fish room. Finally home buying process is almost over :headwally: My plan is to use the tank in the pic and plumb it into the main system. I wanted to see your guys thoughts on this or should I make it its own system with a it's own sump? It's mainly going to be used to grow out and hold my zoa back up colonies.

Specs-
29 TruVu tank with overflow(from the WCR swap. Thanks Grant!!)
24in current T5 light with 4 bulbs(Old light from work tank)

What's gph return should I use and would a single MP10 be the best way to go for flow in the tank?

Thanks,

-Colin

I think set it up as independent system to help your move. Then take your time moving/breaking down your old tank. Even consider using "small amounts" of Portland cement to make 3d rock structures. Don't use too much or could cause excessive pH rise. But small amounts ok (or you can use epoxy).

Point is, worry about connected system later.

To me i wold rather do it on its own separate system.... that way you loose the risk of if something kills or invades your main tank it won't affect your second tank.

I was thinking the same thing.

Plumbing them together does give you the extra volume and stability. But if you are growing out your back up frags I would think you would want to keep them separate from the DT. It doesn't do you much good if your back ups get wiped out by because they are attached to the primary colonies.

Thanks guys for the input! Sounds like the concencious is for the separate system. What's a good return pump for a tank this size?

How much vol is the sump going to be? If all your going to have is zoas/palys with one fish (wrasse) I'd just use a 10 gallon tank with a 600gph pump like Robert suggested with just chaeto. Then just do water changes for supplementation. I like the k.I.S.S approach for everything :)

I would think a 10 gallon sump with a little chaeto and a skimmer. When dealing with frags you have a lot of slime from stressed and healing cuts, you want a skimmer to pull all of that out of the water
