Not that I am happy about not having power, but I am happy I have a generator. Tanks are all taken care of and I am watching Dish Network and have lights and fans and Internet :)

WOW! You guys right around town must have got crushed!

My buddy on Bankville is out too.

We're just 15 miles north and barely got anything!
My power will never go again though because I now have a generator too! :D

I am about 10 miles south of town and apparently it was pretty bad here around 4pm. Power is supposed to be out until late tomorrow. Of course it is going to be near 90 tomorrow.......

We just got power on. It was off from about 4:15 until 10:15. I really got to get a generator. I was using the power inverter that I plug into my car to run my laptop on the road. It ran my return pump and two skimmer pumps.

1am still no power. Finally got to use my genorator too. 9 hours and counting. Yay. My fish are happy, but I have no tv or entertainment otherthan this damn iPhone.

We weren't home until about 10:30 pm last night, but power was on when I got home. I checked the light timers, and they had stopped at about 730, so I only lost power for 3 hours.

Ray & Yinzer, Please tell us about you generator set-ups. Do you guys have portables? Gas, diesel, propane? How did or do connect to the generator? I used an 800W inverter @ our prior residence during a 4 day outage, what a pain. We purchased a portable gas generator and installed a transfer switch for quick and easy connection.

Make sure that you change the oil and roll the engine up on a compression stroke (so both valves are closed) before you put the generator away. Really stinks to roll the generator out after a year or two and find out the piston is rusted in place because one of the valves was open. :-(

That works Ray, I run ours every month, dampness is a killer on the generator/brushes, I'm guessing you store it in your garage which really helps. Using a fuel stabilizer is another good idea if you don't drain the gasoline.

Yes, I do store it in the garage which is partially heated.

I will have to pick up some stabilizer too.

yeah we run ours monthly and have a additive and never ran into issues.

When looking for a generator make sure its going to be
1> big enough to run your tanks (there is a calculator on this site)
2> able to run your magnetic pumps, cheap generators can quickly damage these items

3>go for the LARGE muffler for the quiet one.

I got this one:

And am overall pleased. It seems to run everything but my koralias

If you have concern of dampness in cylinder you can also pull the plug before you put it away and use a foggig oil in cylinder. They have it at any auto parts store. Just pull plug spray it in cylinder and put plug back in. You can also spray into carb intake and turn engine over to coat entire intake cylinder and exhaust.
