Finally going temperate!

So I got a round acrylic tank 35gallons, that I'm thinking of converting into a tide pool temperate tank! However, I do have a few concerns, real head scratching beard rubbing issues! First, I have a 3 gallon pico that is drilled and WAS ready to be turned into a small temperate system, BUT with the addition of this new tank, should I even go temperate on this round tank? Stick to my guns? Second, will an iceprobe be enough to chill 35 gallons? Could it chill 50 gallons (tank plus 15 gall hex sump?) If It could chill 50, I'd love to make the drain and return all in one! That's right, only one hole drilled on the bottom, but big enough to fit the drain and return. Is this possible? Suggestions? Foolishness? Easy? Also, still looking for a 65 gallon tall ;)

I still haven't decided what route I'm going, but I am going to order through these guys! https://coldwater-marine-aquatics.myshopify.com/pages/welcome Anybody else wanna jump on the temperate band wagon and do a group buy? I'm thinking by end of March. Now that I think of it.....I am going to make the circle tank temperate! Maybe simulate tides and such??? I want zero visible plumbing in the DT, suggestions?

Man that site is cool !!!! What are you planning on stocking you tank with ??? I would look at the strawberry anemone and the lumpsucker ..

This sounds like an awesome project! Let me know what kind of livestock you are thinking about doing and I will keep an eye out next time I go collecting. Got some really good minus tides coming up :D

Temperate tanks are awesome, some of the livestock literally looks like it is from another planet. I would call them and ask how they recommend chilling the tank. I remember reading someplace that regular aquarium chillers start to struggle when you are trying to chill in excess of 10 degrees below room temperature. If I remember correctly there are other commercial grade options that work much better once you move down into the 60F range. I have no idea about costs but it's worth looking into if you plan on getting livestock.

there ya go!!!!!! Temperate tank perfect set up!!!! And there is the thread to show you hw to do it up right!!! I wish my wife eventually would let me have lot sof different tanks but unless I make her a clset thats a walk in with as many shoes and purses as she coudl ever imagine... thats not going to happen.

Lol...did we marry sisters??

Updates? I am going to do a temperate tank myself soon....was thinking a pico, so I have been checking out what others are doing, especially here in hot AZ...

I'll be running either a 1/3 hp JBJ chiller or a 1/5 hp Teco chiller, both get the tank COLD! Arizona should be dry enough to not worry about condensation on the glass if the tank water temp is temperate. I originally drilled my Pico to make it a temperate but that was until I found the round tank :) I'm still in the planning stage of this project :( I'd like to foam it and make a tide pool in it, but how on earth do I foam a circle? Eggcrate is flat plus silicone doesn't stick well to acrylic. I'm also having problems figuring out how to do the overflow and return, I want them hidden and silent. I plan on having a tide system where about 30% of the tank gets drained into the sump, everyday. Any suggestions??
