I am going to automate alk, cal, and vinegar. looking foward to a little less daily maintenance.

I went with http://www.reefshops.com/marine-color-dosing-pump-mcd-3-m.html
My guess is it's a before branding bubble magus. Very happy with it. It came with test file to calibrate for each liquid. I have it setup to dose my vinegar 10 times over the day. Tomorrow I'll add Alk. $140 bucks can't beat it.

I think i am going to go with the same doser. i know you just got the unit but what is your first inpressions of it?

Good, it came with a 10ml test vile. You basically set how many seconds each pump takes to fill the vile. I set it up for a night separate to test consistency and it was perfect. It has auto and manual modes.

Got my Alk dialed in and I am at on a consistent 7.7 Running 22 ml daily of gallon Alk mix. 23 made it go up a smidge, 21 down a smidge

Is the 7.7 your dkh? I was thinking 8-12 were the params for a mixed reef??

I dose carbon food source(vinegar) to reduce nitrates. When carbon is dosed it is recommended to keep Alk between 7 and 8(natural sea water). I use a Hanna checker for accurate numbers, run a protein skimmer with fuge light 24/7 to keep ph up, and daily dose. 12 is way to high to keep calcium up. When not running solid carbon 9dkh is a good balanced number with a good margin of error and doesn't buffer out other stuff. I would never let it go below 7. Stability is paramount. Before the doser I would kinda bounce weekly between 8 and 9 with daily manual dosing. I can see the growth rate in my monti caps change when my Dkh is rock solid.

Very interesting thanks...I think my 8dkh is good then..I've been changing 15gal a week on my 125. Hoping to cut back now that im dosing vinegar, kalk and mag. last water change they were 400ca, 8dkh and 1320. Growth is still slow but the vinegar has made the silicon in the sump change back to clear from yellow..So nutrients are getting removed..Coralines have been dying and growing very strangely for the last few months. That's my next thing to figure out??

How are your phosphates? Po4 seems to me to be a major factor in coralline, if you ever want to borrow my Hanna po4 checker it is awesome. The difference between a .04 and a .15 is a lot with sps but very hard to tell on most test kits. I still run Gfo and my po4 goes up if I don't watch it. I am still upping the carbon dose weekly. To be honest running the low Dkh scares me. I am shooting for 8 too and hoping for the best. I don't know what is better, to risk low ph or burnt tips.

I just need a 100 gallon sump in another room with 100 lbs of live rock and a 30 gallon fuge. Damn I don't think the wife will let me turn the pantry into a fish room. I have tried.

my phosphates have never been more than .025 and nitrates 10. for the last 3 weeks they both have been zero on the api test kits. fwiw. I started the vinegar to try and make the zeros solid. Now focus is on ca/dkh/mg I am thinking my monti's will be my indicator?? the two sps I have are not growing super fast but they always have good polyp extension. I just have to remember...patience this is a maraton hobby not a sprint

Your parameters are better than mine B-)
I started using oyster feast and it shot my p04 right up

I'm stingy with the phyto because I dont want to battle the algae. I've been spot feeding for the last few weeks twice a week with a mini baster. Also aquired from the female supply area called the kitchen....hehehe
